Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our standard 50-minute online psychological counselling session rate is $245. You may be eligible for a partial rebate for session fees as part of a Mental Health Care Plan under Medicare.

In certain exceptional circumstances, your practitioner may reduce the cost of your session to assist with affordability. If you are experiencing difficult financial circumstances, please let us know when you make your first appointment.

Reports, letters, and pro forma documents are completed at an hourly rate of $311+GST (or part thereof) and are not eligible for Medicare claims.

Organisational consultation, keynote speeches, training delivery, and other non-clinical services are costed on a case-by-case basis.

ADHD assessments for the purposes of report are standardised at a cost of $1815 + GST. This cost includes three assessment appointments, and the provision of a standard assessment report, and is to be paid up-front.

  • When you consult your GP about your mental health difficulties, they can create a treatment plan for you. This plan can feature multiple referrals, including psychological and/or psychiatric assessment and treatment.

This plan can allow you to receive reimbursement for up to ten psychological counselling sessions per calendar year.

Upon completing a treatment plan, the GP can create a referral letter to one of our providers. This referral letter is the document we need to have before we provide the service to you if you want to claim Medicare reimbursement.

  • Your GP will create a referral letter with your mental health care (or treatment) plan.

Either your GP will send the referral straight to us, or you will need to forward the referral letter before your next appointment to our admin team to claim reimbursement for session fees from Medicare.

To send your referral letter to Wise Psychology, you can email it to hello@wise-psychology.com or ask your GP to send it to us via fax (03 9960 6136) or secure messaging.

  • Schedule a 30-minute appointment with your GP.

At the appointment, they'll usually ask you a series of questions related to your mental health and will then develop the mental health care plan and referral letter.

The GP may give you the referral letter to provide to us or may send it to us directly.

  • You can cancel or reschedule your appointment by emailing your practitioner directly - Wise Psychology practitioners are responsible for managing cancellations and reschedules. If you aren’t able to reach your practitioner directly, or if it is your first appointment, please email hello@wise-psychology.com, call 0482 094 824, or use the booking portal if you made your appointment that way.

When you make an appointment, you reserve that time exclusively for yourself. Should you cancel an appointment at late notice, it usually isn’t practicable to fill that time slot. As such, if you cancel or reschedule fewer than 2 business days before the appointment, a cancellation fee of 50% of the total appointment cost will apply. If you cancel or reschedule less than 1 business day before the appointment, or do not attend the session, you will be required to pay the total appointment cost.

You can not claim Medicare reimbursement for cancelled, rescheduled or missed appointments. For further information, please refer to the service Terms of Use.

If you arrive 20 minutes or more after the scheduled start time for your appointment, your practitioner will mark it as "not attended" and assign the status "cancelled", and the total cost will apply.

Please refer to the service Terms of Use for further information on the session fee policy.

  • Two days before your appointment, you will receive a reminder email and SMS that contain a link to the online waiting room. When your appointment approaches, click the link to enter the waiting room. Your practitioner will then initiate the session at the appointed time.

You can also access the online waiting room by clicking the ‘Enter Waiting Room’ button on this website’s homepage.

For any issues, call 0482 094 824, or email us at hello@wise-psychology.com.

  • Our services are delivered through secure, encrypted video conferencing or by phone. We don’t currently offer in-person appointments.

Online appointments have been empirically demonstrated to work as effectively as in-person appointments and have the added benefits of convenience and accessibility.
